This exercise is particularly effective for those of you with high stress and anxiety, even panic attacks, if you catch it at its very beginnings. Simply repeat this process until you get a sense of feeling better, relaxing, or letting go. Tap your left leg with your left hand then tap your right leg with your right hand. The trick is to tap bilaterally, meaning alternately, one then the other, right, left, right, left, (or, left, right, left, right), etc. Continue this process until you feel less anxious/calmer. You can get a better impression of this measure, perhaps, if you ask yourself what number of intensity of anxiety you have before you start tapping (1-10 with 10 being the most intense). As you tap, periodically ask yourself what the number of intensity is. You will find that the number continues to go down the longer you persist in tapping.

You can also tap your left foot, then your right foot, left, right, left, right, until you feel relief/release of the stress or anxiety. This is a particularly good way to do it at work because no one will notice that you are doing it. You can also give yourself what is called a "butterfly hug". This is done by hugging yourself, with left hand on right arm and right hand on left arm. Then just started tapping alternately back and forth with your hands, left, right, left, right, and so on until you get to the relaxation level that you desire.

This is just one of the many therapeutic methods I use to help you release anxiety, fears, phobias, panic attacks, depression or unwanted anger, (guilt, shame, etc., etc., etc.) quickly, easily and very effectively. Questions? Give me a call or send mean email.

WARNING: The purpose of this exercise is to help you relax and most people find it very relaxing. However, if, while tapping, you start to feel any uncomfortable feelings, stop tapping immediately. If you have any questions you can call me or email me.

Want more than temporary Relief?

Do you Want to Let Go of Your Anxiety

You're not doomed to a life of Anxiety!

The therapeutic methods I use wil help you

In order to help you RELEASE your Anxiety ONCE AND FOR ALL I have to know the specifics and the level of complexity of your individual issues around Anxiety to bring you through this process Safely and Effectively. I therefore can't give you a simple formula of how to do this by yourself at this time. However, after working with me for a very short time, and we work through your tougher issues, I will teach you how to RELEASE not only your own Anxiety as it may come up in the future, but I will also teach you how to let go of any other negative emotion that creates problems in your life (i.e., fear, stress, worry, depression, anger/rage, sadness, quilt, shame and even, physical pain). I will do this by using the following methods:

Brainspotting is an advanced form of psychotherapy that can access parts of the brain that are often hidden from our awareness.

Throughout our lives, we experience events which can cause significant physical and/or emotional injury and distress. It can be a single isolated experience or can occur as a series of small events, which over time accumulate in our body. Either way, these events are traumatic and can leave us with feelings of sadness, anxiousness, anger or other types of emotions. Typically, we aren’t even aware that these past events are affecting us on a daily basis.

We can spend years talking about the feelings we’re experiencing and trying to figure out logically where they have come from. We might even develop ways to live with or “cope” with these feelings. What we might not realize is that all these feelings can be traced back to a core event, or series of events. Finding this source is especially important. By getting to the core issue, we can gain access to the roots of these feelings, allowing our brains to process the material that is causing the emotional or physical reaction. It’s one thing to know why we shouldn’t feel a certain way, it’s quite another to actually be free of those feelings.

Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that connects current emotional and physical reactions to events that happened in the past. For example, a person who suffered a car accident years earlier might continue to become highly anxious while driving. When we identify a “Brainspot”, we neurobiologically locate and process past experiences that have, for whatever reason, gotten stuck. Once these past traumas are un-stuck, our bodies will no longer continue to react that way.

We may have a degree of awareness as to what might be at the root of a feeling. In other words, we might think we know why we’re feeling a certain way. But there are often additional connections that are typically beyond the reach of our conscious mind. They are actually in areas of the brain that aren’t accessible through talking. Brainspotting appears to take place at a reflexive or cellular level within the nervous system, which can cancel out these unwanted emotional and physiological responses. Brainspotting treatment combines psychology with physiology, bridging the mind-body connection.

E.M.D.R. (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

Bilateral tapping (from E.M.D.R.)

Bilateral tapping comes from a therapy called E.M.D.R. (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which simulates the biological phenomenon called Rapid Eye Movement (R.E.M.). This process is supposed to happen in the deepest stage of our nightly sleep and effectively processes and lets go of negative thoughts and emotions. However, with the amount of stress in our lives these days and the traumas that we experience over time, the R.E.M. system gets overloaded and is not able to process the excess emotions that build up. This “overflow” gets stored in the subconscious and has a continued negative effect on our beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Our current thoughts, feelings, and consequent behaviors originate from our beliefs about ourselves and our place in the world. Our negative beliefs are caused by the various traumas that we experience throughout our lives, (be it the type of trauma referred to as “T”, the bigger traumas, or “t”, the lesser traumas). These negative beliefs feed our negative thoughts and feelings and result in our negative/dysfunctional behaviors.

The various traumas we experience throughout our lifetime become trapped in one side of the brain while language is processed in the opposite side. Because the two sides of the brain do not effectively communicate with each other, talk therapies cannot effectively release the trauma. The bilateral stimulation used in E.M.D.R. “unlocks” the trauma and allows the mind and body to process the traumatic experience by connecting the two hemispheres of the brain and releasing the trauma through a free association process.

Besides working very effectively with major trauma, bilateral tapping has also been found to be very powerful in letting go of general anxiety as well as other feelings. It is accomplish by simply focusing on the general anxiety and alternately tapping your legs, or other parts of the body, in a left-right, left-right fashion until the anxiety subsides.

Bilateral tapping is also a very effective way to enhance positive thoughts and feelings. Simply focus on a positive resource in your life and, while focusing on those thoughts and feelings, tap alternately on your legs or arms, etc., and you will enhance that resource or experience.
